Rev. Anthony Woody, Eulogist |
Annie Mack Woody was born July 8, 1921, in Franklin County, VA to the late John Andrew and Annie Potter Mack. She was educated in the Franklin County School System. She met and fell in love with her soul mate, the late Charlie F. Woody and was joined in holy matrimony on December 26, 1939. This union was blessed with four children.
At an early age she trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour and was baptized May 12, 1940, at Truevine Baptist Church, Penhook, VA. She genuinely loved the Lord and it was displayed in her gentle spirit as she served the Lord and others.
In 1947, the family moved to Martinsville, VA, and Sister Woody joined the New Light Baptist Church where she served faithfully for 30 years, later joining Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Jacob Dillard. She participated in the Missionary Society serving as president in 1984. She was a faithful member of the adult Sunday School class, the senior choir and a lifetime meber of the Smith River Baptist Association.
Sister Woody worked at various jobs, including Jobber's Pants Factory, American of Martinsville, Bassett-Walker and Martinsville General Hospital. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing and cooking. She was a warm and kind-hearted person and had a gift of giving and exhibited it by sharing her delicious cooking with the sick and shut-in, friends and neighbors in the community.
She is survived by her four children: William L. (Lilia) Woody, of Fredericksburg, VA; Doris B. (Charles) Branch, of Woodbridge, VA; Charlie M. Woody, of Martinsville, VA; and Odessa W. Wynn, of Bowie, MD; one sister, Dorothy Mack, of Washington, DC. Left to cherish her memory are nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Anthony Woody will officiate. Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.
