Augusta Spencer Draper, 90, of 240 Riverside Drive, Bassett, VA departed this life on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Stanleytown Healthcare Center.

Augusta (Gussie) was the fifth of eight children, born to Rev. Ned and Ada Goins Spencer, of which all siblings preceded her in death (Lelia, Pearl, Lloyd, Elmore, William, Manuel and Jessie Mae).  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Moyer Draper and son, Robert Fitzgerald Draper, Sr.

Augusta was baptized and joined Meadow Christian Church at an early age.  She was educated in the Henry County Public School System.  In 1965, she completed training and received a certificate as an Infant and Geriatric Care Technician from Manhattan Medical Assistant's School.  She was Past Worthy Matron and lifetime member of the Price Hall Order of Eastern Star, Beacon Light Chapter # 58, New York, NY.

After spending most of her life in NY, and CT, upon retiring from Bunker-Ramo Electronics Manufacturing, Inc., in Stamford, CT - building commercial computers, she returned to this area and attended Fayette Street Christian Church, Martinsville and later became a member of Jerusalem Christian Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one granddaughter, Karen Villareal, of Roanoke, VA; two grandsons, Robert F. Draper, Jr., of Amissville, VA; and Moyer O. Draper, of Bristow, VA; four great-grandchildren, Jesus Villareal, Robert Villareal, Johnathan King, and Venecia Draper, two sisters-in-law, Geneva T. Draper and Hassie Spencer, both of Martinsville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Hines Funeral Services Chapel.  Rev. Robert Smith, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.
