Mrs. Barbara Jean Steward, 69, of 2250 Waterford Park Drive, Lawrenceviile, GA departed this life on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, GA. She was born May 10, 1940 a daughter of the William F. and Eva Witcher Thomas. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Steward; five brothers, Lynwood, C. T., Alphonso, Jerry, and Joe William Thomas, 2 sisters, Gracie Keith and Shirley Winston and one granddaughter, Breanna Martin.
Barbara was retired from Saks Fifth Avenue after 25 years of service and attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.
Those left to cherish her memory, include four daughters, Anita (Gratis) DeBong, Kimberly Hardy, Ivory (Christopher) Martin all of Lawrenceville, GA; and Arnita Hardy, of Yonkers, NY; two sons, Kevin (Heather) Thomas, of Crestline, OH and Larry Hardy, of Lawrenceville, GA; one sister, Olivia Kelly, of Callands, VA; three brothers, O. J. , Randall and Edward Thomas, all of Martinsville, VA 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Filled with life, love, and smiles, Barbara was the mother everyone wanted. She offered her children love and the true meaning of what family is, teaching them the value of respect, and appreciation for family. She was a hard working independent woman who took care of home. She loved to spend time at home..."when you have everything at home, why leave" - was her motto.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Kindgom Hall of Jehovah's Witness with Dexter Gravely, speaking. Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.
