Catherine Velma DeRogers Spencer, 67, of 2263 Carver Road, Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.  She was born October 17, 1942 in New Roads, LA to the late Phillip DeRogers and the late Mary Jacque DeRogers.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Kennan David Spencer; three sisters, Hazel DeRogers, Sadie Gauthier, Elosie Brent and one brother, Phillip DeRogers.

Catherine was a member of Mt. Sinai Church, where she served on the Usher Board and Announcing Secretary.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, James Esmond Spencer, of the home; one son, Byron (Arlene) Spencer, of Atlanta, GA; one granddaughter, Brandi; six sisters, Edna Smith, of Bagalase, LA; Agnes Gosserand, Teresa Dandy, Anne Volta, Marjorie Martin, all of New Roads, LA; and Mary Ellen Norwood, of Ventress, LA; one brother, Fermen DeRogers, of Slidell. LA and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Mt. Sinai Church in Martinsville, VA with Bishop J. C. Richardson, Jr., officiating.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens in Martinsville, VA.
