A Time to Be Born

     Darnell Carter Hodge, Sr., was born October 2, 1916 in Langraff, West VIrginia to the late William Ramey and Minnie Carter Hodge.

A Time to Serve

     Darnell was actively involved in the Knights of Phytians, York Rite Masons, Sons of Solomon Lodge # 111 (Past Master); G. W. Carver H R A M # 49; Philmore Reed Knights of Templar # 24; King Solomon Consistory # 64; KuWat Temple # 126 (Past Potentate and Life Member); and the Sportsmen Club (Life Member)

A Time to be Blessed

     Darnell married his beloved sweetheart, Blanche Hairston, on December 28, 1940.  The union was blessed with a heritage from the Lord in their children, Shirley, "Cilla' and "Donny".

A Time to Depart

     The Lord called Darnell home on January 6, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Martinsville, VA.

A Time to Mourn

     In addition to his parents, Darnell was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche, two sisters, Nina Hodge Gravely and Minnie Hodge Fuller, and three brothers, Percy, William and Monroe Hodge.

     Darnell is survived by two daughters, Shirley Hodge-Coleman (Bert), of Washington, DC; Priscilla Hodge, of Ft. Washington, MD; and one son, Darnell Hodge, Jr., of Martinsville, VA; three nieces, Claudia (Nathan) Hines, Alfreda Hodge and Patricia (Ronald) Gravely; three nephews, Thomas Hodge, Larry (Veronica) Hale and Jeremy Hines and a host of other relatives, caring neighbors and devoted friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Thurman O. Echols, Jr., officiating.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens in Martinsville, VA
