Elizabeth Grant Hairston, "Lizzie", 98, of 1607 Spruce Street, Martinsville, VA departed her life on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Golden Living Health Care Center.  She was born October 9, 1912, to the late George Grant and Katie Hodge Grant.  She was united in marriage to Henry Clay Hairston for 69 years.

She was a domestic worker for the majority of her life.  She was a faithful member of Peaceful Zion Full Gospel Baptist Church for over 35 years.  Elizabeth was the mother of the church, worked on the kitchen committee, usher board, sang in the choir and worked with the Missionary department until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by:  her husband, Henry Clay Hairston; one daughter, Priscilla; two sons, Richard and Charlie; two sisters, Nannie Hairston and Maggie Preston; two brothers, William and Sherman Grant.

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory:  four daughters, Annie Kate (James) Noel, Rosa H. (Charles) Martin, Helen M. (Bobbie) Dillard and Bertha Brimmer, all of Martinsville, VA.  She also leaves to cherish her memory, 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Peaceful Zion Full Gospel Baptist Church with Elder Marvin Slade, officiating.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens in Martinsville, VA.
