The family of Frances Becker Walton, honors her life as we pause to bid a godly farewell.  On Sunday morning, August 29, 2010, Frances was relieved of all pain and suffering as she responded to the call of the death angel that had come to transport her home.

Frances was born on August 27, 1936 to the late Claude and Ella Becker.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Slyvia Patterson and one grandchild, Carl Martin, Jr.

Frances was reared and educated in the West End community of Martinsville, VA.  As a youth, she joined Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she remained faithful until her declining health.  She served on numerous committees and offered her services where needed.  Frances has served as past president of the Pilgrim Travelers, Missionary Circle, and the Pastor's Aide.  She loved to sing her song, "The wicked shall cease from troubling."  She was also active as a member of the Senior Choir, Culinary Ministry, and van driver for the Transportation Ministry.  Frances also used her gift by reading the church announcements and extending a wlcome to visitors.

Frances was united in marriage to the late William Walton, Sr.  This union was blessed with five children.  Frances was a Christian woman, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She had a quiet spirit, but managed to become well-known within the city as a gifted seamstress using her creativity to add something different to patterns to make it an originial for the customer.  She worked several years at Tultex in Martinsville, VA until health issues forced her to change professions.  She then worked for many years as a domestic worker for families in the area until her declining health.

Frances leaves to cherish her memory:  three daughters, Cynthia Walton, Millicent Walton and Karen Martin, all of Martinsville, VA; two sons, William Walton, Jr., of the home; and Jemal Walton, of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Veronica Manns, of Martinsville, VA; three brothers, Claude Becker, Jr., Emanuel Becker, and Christopher Becker, all of Martinsville, VA; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.  Dr. Eric F. Hairston, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, VA.
