John McGarrett (Gary) Spencer, was born August 3, 1970 in Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, NC to John Hereford and Lois Preston Spencer. He departed this life on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC at the age of 40. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Manervia Spencer and his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Virginia Preston.
Gary attended Drewry Mason High School and was a life long resident of Ridgeway. He moved to Buffalo, NY for a while and recently moved back to help take of his father. He was a member of Mayo Missionary Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his parents, John and Lois Spencer, of Ridgeway, VA; one sister Katie (Barry) Moore, of Martinsville, VA; four brothers, William Burgess, of Salisbury, NC; Darryl Spencer, Mark Spencer and Anthony Brim, all of Martinsville, VA; and a host of uncles, aunts nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Mayo Missionary Baptist Church in Ridgeway, VA with Rev. Dwight Mack, officiating. Burial will follow in the Preston-Dodson Family Cemetery in Martinsville, VA.
