Laverne Marie Brooks, was born on September 22, 1950 in Martinsville, VA to Sarah Brown Brooks and the late Robert L. Brooks.  She received her early education in the Martinsville City Public School System and was a 1968 graduate of Albert Harris High School.

Laverne was a loving mother and grandmother.  She devoted her life to raising her two children, Toi and Brian.  She never let life's adversities discourage her and always encouraged her children to be their very best.  Since she was blessed to be a part  of a loving family, she knew that their was no love like a mother's love.  Her children knew that they could always depend on her to be their no matter what the circumstances.  Laverne was very family oriented and treasured the moments that she spent with her mother, siblings, children and close friends.

Laverne was a faithful member of Refuge Temple Ministries under the pastorate of Elder Alan Preston.  She was employed by Sara Lee for the past 28 years.

In addition to her father, Laverne was preceded in death by her brother, Edward l. Brooks, and one sister, Connie Brooks.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Toi (Franklin) Yvette Crane, of Liberty, SC; one son, Brian (Alicia) Mashun "Shawn" Brooks, of Greensboro, NC; her mother, Sarah Brooks, of Martinsville, VA; three sisters, Willie Mae Harris, and Carolyn Witcher, both of Martinsville, VA; and Carlissa Brooks, of Roanoke, VA; two brothers, Robert Brooks, Jr., and Donnie Brooks, both of Martinsville, VA; three grandchildren, Jasmine Brooks, Cameron Crane and Morgan Brooks; one great-grandchild, Javion Brooks and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Carver Memorial Gardens in Martinsville, VA with Elder Alan preston, officiating.
