On Thursday, September 24, 2009, Leaner Flippen Pritchett, 99, gracefully went home to rest with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Leaner was born February 28, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late George Washington Flippen and Sarah Jane Adams Flippen.

She was joined in marriage to the late James Hartford Pritchett and to this union four children were born.  She was educated in the Pittsylvania County School System.

in addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lucius, Moncell and Sam Flippen, three sisters, Georgianna F. Watkins, Estelle F. Hairston, Josie Haislip and one grandson Christopher Pritchett.

She was employed at Jobbers Pants Factory and later worked at J. C. Penny where she retired.

She began her Christian experience at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church and continued her Christian work at High Street Baptist Church.  She served as a deaconess, A. L. Stone Circle # 5, Hamlin Workers Club and a member of Philmore Reid Chapter # 52, Order of Eastern Star.  At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of High Street Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  one daughter, Bernice P. Mitchell (John), of Martinsville, VA; three sons, Howard J. Pritchett (Elizabeth), Lanham, MD; Dr. Paul E. Pritchett, of Waldorf, MD and David A. Pritchett (Pauline) 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces nephews relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church with Rev. William A. Shackleford, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pritchett Family Cemetery in Cascade, VA.
