Mother Lucille Marie Wilson Giles, packed up and took flight to be with the Lord on December 15, 2010. She was born January 17, 1919 in Cascade, VA to the late Peter and Sallie Willie Manns Wilson. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Johnnie, William, Leonard, Percy, Daniel George and Joseph Wilson and 2 sisters, Beatrice Hayes and Millie Lee Broadnax and one special daughter, Mary N. Giles.
Mother Lucille was happily married to the late Robert Ford Giles, of Axton, VA on October 26, 1938 for 51 years. To that union four children were born, Robert Edward (Frances) Giles, of Eden, NC; Joe Meade (Mary) Giles, of Danville, VA; Andrew William (Geraldine) Giles, of Axton, VA; and one daughter, Devern Marie (James, Jr.) Robertson, of Axton, VA; From that union Mother Lucille gained 31 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She had two special daughters, who she loved, Dorothy Glenn, of Ridgeway, VA; and Patricia Giles, of Richmond, VA; She is survived by 3 sisters-in-law, Christine Wilson, of Eden, NC; Cora Wilson, of Axton, VA; and Rella Strong, of Martinsville, VA; To mourn her loss, are a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Mother Lucille labored at Standard Garments for 25 years and at Fieldcrest Mills for 10 years, where she later retired in 1984. She believed in being on time to do God's work. One of her favorite occupations was preparing for her family, cooking and opening up her home for church conventions and family reunions. She loved church. She was a dedicated Missionary as she served as the oldest member of The Only Way Church of Christ, Inc., for over 50 years. Through her faithfulness, she served on the National Secretary Department, a choir member, on the Kitchen Committee and any other auxiliary that needed her assistance. Outside of those duties, Mother Lucille was a mother to all. But most of all she was truly a praiser and worshipper! She knew how to stir up the church by singing her favorite song, "Packing up getting ready to go." Mother Lucille had a wonderful smile and the warmest gestures. If ever in her presence, it was hard to resist chatting with her. If she saw you, you better stop to talk to her or she would let you know, you were not getting away. She had no respect of person.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 19, 2010 at The Only Way Church of Christ in Eden, NC with Bishop Jesse Davis, officiating. Burial will follow in the Giles Family Cemetery in Axton, VA.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Hines Funeral Services, Inc.
