Rev. Robert Smith, Eulogist |
Sherwood Edward Stockton, Sr., son of Lizzie Hodge Stockton and the late James Edward Stockton was born on October 1, 1936. He peacefully made his transition into life eternal following a period of illness at Golden Living Center in Martinsville, VA.
He married Linda Dillard Stockton, and to this union was born Sherwood Edward Stockton, Jr., and Timothy Von Stockton. Sherwood was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and friend. He was a humble man whose character was shown through his smile, fair dealings with people, responsible work habits and honesty.
As a native of Henry County, he was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School class of 1955. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. After many years of dedicated service to Bryant Plumbing and Heating Services, he was employed by and retired from the Henry County Public Service Authority. His career did not end, he continued working through the Manpower Agency until he became ill.
Sherwood was well-known for his unselfish service to his family friends and neighbors and acquaintances. He was the "Good Samaritan" to many.
His love was not shown with many words, it was shown with action.
In addition to his mother, wife and two sons, he leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Jacquelyn Kordalewski, of Milton, MA; three brothers, Cornell Stockton, Smith Stockton and Larry Hodge, all of Martinsville, VA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Hines Funeral Services Chapel. Rev. Robert Smith will officiate. Burial will be private.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Hines Funeral Services, Inc.
